All the wines are made of grapes from our family-owned Oude Nektar farm in the Jonkershoek Valley of Stellenbosch. The vineyard elevations on Oude Nektar range from 150 to 600 metres, with corresponding variations in mesoclimate. Just 40 hectares of the property is vines, while the remaining 200 hectares are maintained as indigenous vegetation.

As a small ward within Stellenbosch, Jonkershoek Valley shows unique characteristics that distinguish its wines. Temperatures are cooler than most of Stellenbosch and we experience a higher winter rainfall. Our historical average rainfall is about 1200ml per year, while Stellenbosch might get half that amount.

During the summer, we get strong south-easterly winds that minimise vine disease and also serve to hold down yields. Soils are decomposed granite over clay with a range of textures from fine gravel to quite stony.

Pieter Smit has been our dedicated viticulturalist for over 20 years and has overseen the planting of every vine on the farm.
